On September 14, 2023, Wang Jun, the secretary of School of Foreign Languages of Northwest University, led Robin Gilbank, a British foreign teacher, and Eli Smith, an American foreign teacher, to visit Gaoxin 16th Junior High School. The purpose of this visit was to give full play to the social benefits of the university's internationalized educational resources, to return to the community, to serve the public, to provide students with cross-cultural exchange experiences and to expand their international horizons.
At the beginning of the activity, Mr. Wang Jun, on behalf of the School of Foreign Languages of Northwest University, expressed his sincere greetings to the teachers and students of Gaoxin 16th Junior High School. He introduced the history and educational philosophy of Northwest University and then emphasized on the importance of learning foreign languages in modern society.
Afterwards, foreign teachers Robin Gilbank and Eli Smith introduced their hometowns, including the customs, cultural traditions and places of interest in Britain and the United States, to the students respectively. The students showed great interest and put forward many questions, to which the foreign teachers gave full answers.
In order to encourage the students to work harder, the foreign teachers gave the cultural and creative products of Northwest University as prizes to the students who performed well. These products not only reflected the characteristics of Northwest University, but also symbolized the importance of studying hard and expressed teachers’ sincere wishes to students. Teachers hoped that the students could better devote themselves to their studies.
The whole activity had a warm and cheerful atmosphere, and the students actively participated in the exchanges with great enthusiasm. The interaction with the foreign teachers not only enriched the students' knowledge, but also opened their horizons, enabling them to have a deeper understanding and awareness of international exchange and cultural diversity. It is hoped that through such activities, the friendship between Chinese and foreign students can be further promoted, the ability of language exchange can be improved, and a solid foundation for the future development of the students can be laid.
Through this activity, the teachers and students of the 16th Gaoxin Junior High School established deep friendship with the foreign teachers, and at the same time enhanced the cooperation and exchange with the college. This kind of cross-cultural educational experience will surely play a positive role in the growth of the students. Our school will continue to promote exchange activities that give back to society and serve the community.
