Organization

The Second Section of College English Department is responsible for teaching College English to the non-English-major undergraduate students at NWU who are enrolled in the even-numbered years, and it has a faculty of 23. The faculty members are mainly young and middle-aged teachers, ninety-nine percent of them have Master’s Degree and thirty percent of them have had or are pursuing Doctor’ Degree. With the encouragement and help of the experienced colleagues, the young teachers have grown into the backbone of teaching and scientific research. In previous years, they have won many prizes including one first place in the lecture contest of young teachers at NWU.

Emphasizing the teaching methods and effects, the faculty is popular with the students. A number of teachers have been rated as excellent in the evaluation of teaching quality at NWU. Owing to the faculty’s efforts, The Second section of College English Department has achieved outstanding results in the national College English Test (Band Four and Band Six) for 3 consecutive years, and received the reward and recognition of NWU.

During the past years, the faculty has conducted over 20 research projects commissioned by China’s National Social Sciences Plan, the Ministry of Education’s Social Sciences Research Project, Shaanxi Province’s Social Sciences Research Project or NWU’s Social Sciences Research Project. Individual faculty members have published over 80 research papers, and edited over 20 textbooks and teaching reference books.
